Pakistan Railways has tightened security measures across the country following the recent blast in Quetta, with authorities deciding to deploy trained armed commandos at railway stations and aboard trains to prevent any untoward incidents.
According to a spokesperson for the Railway Police, all personnel have been placed on high alert in the aftermath of the Quetta explosion. Officials have been directed to ensure foolproof security at mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgahs, shrines and other religious places located within railway premises.
The spokesperson said additional Railway Police personnel would also be deployed at sensitive religious sites and Eid gatherings to enhance security during the festive period.
Authorities have further intensified security around railway tracks, passenger and freight trains, key installations, railway yards, workshops, stores and offices. Search operations, sweeping activities and routine patrols are being carried out at railway stations, bridges, tracks and other sensitive locations nationwide.
As part of the enhanced security plan, trained and heavily armed commandos will be stationed at railway stations and onboard trains to respond swiftly to any potential threat.
Railway Police have also been instructed to maintain close coordination with district police, intelligence agencies, rescue services and bomb disposal squads to improve emergency response capabilities.
Officials said strict monitoring and checking of suspicious individuals, vehicles, luggage and unattended items has been ordered. CCTV surveillance, intelligence-based monitoring and effective screening of entry and exit points are also being strengthened.
Railway authorities have directed all departments to prepare and immediately submit comprehensive security plans detailing deployment of personnel and operational responsibilities. The measures aim to ensure passenger safety and secure the railway network against possible threats after the Quetta blast.
