Quetta: 21st Provincial Cabinet Meeting Approves Electric Bikes and Health Insurance Schemes

The 21st important meeting of the Balochistan Provincial Cabinet was held in Quetta under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, during which several key decisions related to the province’s social and economic development were approved. The cabinet expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for initiating communication and education projects in Balochistan.

The cabinet decided to introduce an Electric Bikes Scheme for the general public. Under the scheme, students, working women, and government employees will be provided electric bikes with a 30 percent subsidy, while ordinary citizens will also be able to acquire electric bikes on easy installments. It was decided that the scheme would be implemented through bank financing to ensure wider accessibility.

During the meeting, it was disclosed that approximately Rs. 6 to 7 billion are spent annually on the medical treatment of nearly 250,000 provincial government employees. In view of this, the cabinet gave in-principle approval for the introduction of a comprehensive health insurance scheme for government employees. The cabinet also approved audits of advance medical payments and the Public Endowment Fund.

The provincial cabinet further approved the expansion of the Enterprises Development Program to Gwadar, Kech, and Awaran, with the aim of providing economic opportunities and financial stability to the youth of the province. The meeting also reached a consensus on promoting meritocracy, agreeing that all appointments would be made strictly on merit.

Addressing the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that the provincial government is thankful to the Prime Minister for his cooperation in communication and education projects for Balochistan. He stated that the Electric Bikes Scheme would benefit people from all walks of life through easy installment plans.

The Chief Minister emphasized that resources generated from public taxes are a trust of the people, and it is unjust for the poor of Balochistan to suffer while a major share of resources is spent on a privileged few.

He stressed that good governance is directly linked to meritocracy and reaffirmed the cabinet’s strong commitment to promoting merit, ensuring its implementation in true letter and spirit.
