shutter-down strike observed in Makran against rising kidnapping for ransom

A shutter-down strike is being observed today in several districts of the Makran region, including Panjgur, in protest against the rising incidents of kidnapping for ransom and increasing insecurity.

The strike has been announced by the All Parties Citizens Action Committee Makran. The committee stated that the protest aims to highlight serious public concerns over abductions, theft, and robbery, which have increased in recent months.

According to the committee, Shah Nawaz Gul was abducted nearly two months ago. Despite demands for ransom, he has not yet been released. The committee said the lack of progress in the case has caused fear among residents and raised questions about public safety.

The statement warned that continued incidents of kidnapping for ransom could turn into a major law and order issue across Balochistan if not addressed immediately.

During the strike, markets, shops, offices, and business centers remain closed. Educational institutions are also shut, while daily activities in several areas have been disrupted.

Earlier this month, protest rallies were held in Panjgur, Turbat, and Gwadar on January 18, 22, and 25. Large numbers of citizens participated in those demonstrations to condemn kidnappings and deteriorating security conditions.

Protesters demanded effective measures from the authorities to recover abducted persons and to prevent further criminal activity in the region.

The strike reflects growing public frustration over safety concerns and calls for concrete steps to restore peace in Makran.
