Kohlu: A forest fire that erupted in the Koh Jandaran area of Kohlu has entered its second day, with firefighting operations still underway as authorities struggle to bring the blaze fully under control.
According to officials from the Forest and Wildlife Department, the fire has been burning for more than 24 hours, affecting forested land in the mountainous region. Teams from the department, along with local volunteers, remain actively engaged in efforts to extinguish the flames despite challenging terrain and limited access.
Forest officials said that while some progress has been made, the fire has not yet been completely contained. Strong winds and dry conditions in the area are hampering firefighting operations and increasing the risk of the fire spreading further.
Local residents have also joined the operation on a voluntary basis, assisting authorities by creating firebreaks and helping to control the spread of the flames. No casualties have been reported so far; however, concerns remain over potential damage to forest resources and wildlife if the fire continues.
The Forest and Wildlife Department has appealed to the public to avoid entering forested areas and to report any signs of fire immediately. Authorities said firefighting efforts will continue until the blaze is fully extinguished and the affected area is declared safe.
Officials added that an assessment of environmental damage will be carried out once the fire is brought under control.
