A deadly road accident in Balochistan’s Pishin district claimed the lives of at least five people and left 11 others injured after a Zaranj rickshaw plunged into a deep ravine near Khanozai on Friday, rescue officials said.
The tragic incident occurred near Nana Sahib area in Khanozai, where the passenger vehicle reportedly lost control due to brake failure before falling into a gorge. According to rescue authorities, the accident took place on a mountainous road, making rescue efforts difficult for emergency teams and local residents.
Officials said five passengers died on the spot due to the severity of the crash, while 11 others, including women and children, sustained serious injuries. Witnesses said the vehicle was badly damaged after rolling down the ravine.
Soon after the incident, local residents rushed to the site and joined rescue teams in relief operations. Emergency workers retrieved the victims from the ravine and shifted them to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and legal formalities.
Hospital sources confirmed that several injured passengers were in critical condition. After receiving initial medical aid, the seriously injured victims were referred to Quetta for advanced treatment due to the lack of specialized medical facilities in the area.
Rescue officials said all the victims belonged to Spin Tangi Nana Sahib area. Authorities were continuing efforts to identify the deceased and inform their relatives.
The accident caused grief and panic in the area as family members gathered at hospitals to receive updates about their loved ones. Local residents described the incident as one of the most tragic road accidents in the region in recent weeks.
Traffic accidents are common in Balochistan due to poor road conditions, aging transport vehicles, dangerous mountain routes, and lack of safety measures. Brake failure, overspeeding, and reckless driving remain major causes of fatal accidents across the province.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine further details, while residents have urged the government to improve road safety measures and transport inspections to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
