Saindak Copper Gold Project has generated more than Rs14 billion in royalty payments for the government of Balochistan during the last three years, according to officials of MRDL.
Officials told the author that the province has received royalty payments from the Saindak Gold and Copper Project since 2004. The project, located in the mineral-rich district of Chagai, remains one of Pakistan’s major mining ventures and a significant source of revenue for Balochistan.
According to official figures, the province received more than Rs7.14 billion in royalty payments between 2004 and September 2017, when the royalty rate was fixed at 2 percent.
Officials said the royalty share was later increased to 5 percent from September 2017 to December 2022. During this period, Balochistan received more than Rs5.96 billion under the revised royalty structure.
The royalty rate was further raised to 6.5 percent from January 2023 to April 2026. During the same period, the province received over Rs14.17 billion in royalty payments, reflecting a significant increase in earnings from the mining project.
In total, Balochistan has received more than Rs27.28 billion in royalty payments from the Saindak project over the last 22 years, officials confirmed.
The Saindak Gold and Copper Project is considered one of the largest mining projects in Pakistan and plays an important role in the economic development of Balochistan through mineral extraction, employment opportunities, and provincial revenue generation.
