Quetta: A startling revelation has emerged in Balochistan after an official audit uncovered that records of 3,762 government vehicles are missing from the provincial database. The findings were presented to Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti by the Excise and Taxation Department, raising serious concerns over administrative lapses and potential misuse of public assets.
According to the report, the Excise Department’s database lists 14,304 government vehicles, but during verification, 3,672 vehicles could not be traced or confirmed. The audit highlights significant discrepancies across multiple departments.
The most alarming gap was found in the Agriculture Department, where 1,142 vehicles have no documented whereabouts. Similarly, the Police Department failed to verify 443 vehicles, while the Local Government Department could not confirm the presence of 171 vehicles under its use.
In Quetta specifically, the report revealed that the Health Department has 168 missing vehicles, and the Education Department has lost track of 131 vehicles.
Other departments also show troubling discrepancies. The Regulation Department and the Planning & Development Department each have 113 untraceable vehicles. Furthermore, the Planning Department lacks records for an additional 65 vehicles, while the Social Welfare Department could not account for 63 vehicles.
In response to these findings, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has constituted a three-member committee tasked with locating the vehicles, determining responsibility, and proposing corrective measures to prevent future losses.
The revelation has triggered a wave of public concern, with calls for transparency, accountability, and immediate recovery of the missing assets.
