QUETTA — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday announced special security measures for companies investing in Balochistan’s mineral sector, including the deployment of dedicated security force wings to protect key projects and transport routes.
The decision was made during a meeting of the provincial apex committee held in Quetta under the chairmanship of the prime minister. The meeting focused on security conditions, development projects and strategic planning related to Balochistan.
The high-level session was attended by Asim Munir, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Khalid Magsi, Jam Kamal Khan and Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah.
During the meeting, the prime minister directed authorities to deploy additional wings of the Frontier Corps in Balochistan’s Rakhshan Division. Officials said the move is aimed at creating a secure corridor for mineral transportation and investment activities across the province.
According to the briefing, the proposed security corridor will include additional Frontier Corps units, security checkpoints on highways, surveillance systems and reinforced border posts to improve protection for companies operating in the mineral sector.
Shehbaz Sharif said providing a safe environment in Balochistan is essential for maintaining the confidence of local and international companies working on mineral-related projects in Pakistan.
The prime minister also stressed the importance of modern technology and advanced training for police and law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism and strengthen national security efforts.
He said the federal government is taking several initiatives to integrate Balochistan’s youth into the national mainstream through education, technical and vocational training, employment opportunities, scholarships, digital skills programs and sports activities.
Earlier, while addressing faculty members and trainee officers at the Command and Staff College Quetta, the prime minister said Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq is continuing with full determination against militant networks linked to the Afghan Taliban.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif said the government and security institutions remain committed to eliminating terrorism and will respond firmly to all threats against the country.
He also praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their professionalism, operational readiness and sacrifices made in defence of national sovereignty.
Referring to the May 2025 military confrontation with India, the prime minister commended the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir and highlighted what he described as Pakistan’s responsible and measured response during the crisis.
